Since its incorporation in July 2007, Eolia Renovables de Inversiones, S.C.R., S.A. has positioned itself as one of the leading independent European generators of power from renewable sources.
Eolia Renovables is engaged in the development, construction and operation of wind farms and solar photovoltaic plants, and currently has a portfolio of 824 MW in Spain.
Its growth strategy is based on taking equity stakes in mid-sized renewable energy companies. The company currently includes over 50 facilities that generate electricity from renewable sources, contributed by more than 20 independent developers. It is owned by 35 shareholders.
Its founding shareholders include specialist alternative asset managers such as the N+1 Group, independent developers and financial institutions such as Bankinter. Other former core investors include some of Spain’s most important institutional investors, such as BBK, Kutxa, Fonditel and Banco Sabadell, among others. Currently, it´s mostly participated by Alberta Investment Management Corporation.
As remarkable milestones, in 2009, Renovables was ranked in fourth place nationwide on pipeline capacity registered in the registry for the pre-allocation of remuneration for special regime facilities under Spain’s Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Commerce (“Registry of pre-assignment”). In fact, Eolia Renovables managed to register 20 wind farms at various stages of development and with an aggregate attributable capacity of 623 MW in the Pre-assignment registry. Since then, the portafolio of wind and solar farms hasn’t stopped growing, reaching 824 MW.
So, according to the Spanish wind power bussiness association (AEE) Eolia Renovables ranked sixth by total installed capacity at year-end 2012 and the forth solar photovoltaic company.Adittionally, it was ranked the second in terms of new wind power capacity installed in 2012. At the end of 2019, it was ranked the first independent company in terms of installed capacity.
